Choquequirao Trek 4D / 3N

Day 01:

You will leave from Cusco at 5:00 am arriving to Cachora town at 09:00 am. Arrangement of the equipment on mules and horses. From there you can observe the majestic Padrayoc and Wayna Cachora snow-covered peaks; you can appreciate the beautiful change of the landscape from precipices to snowy mountains. On the way, you will observe Apurimac canyon with its impressive depth and in Santa Rosa you will set up your campsite. The approximate time of the hike is about 7 hours. This day you will pass by small settlements: La Colmena (2870masl), Cocamasana (2330masl), Torowisqana (2285masl), Chiquisca (1950masl); Playa Rosalina, La Huerta (2705masl) and finally you arrive to Santa Rosa (2115masl). Day 02:

Early morning (5:00am) after breakfast; you continue your hike going up to Choquequirao. You will arrive at the archaeological site of Choquequirao after 5 hours. You will observe the three levels of the excavated ruins, where you can appreciate houses, terraces and other parts of this late Inca-town and finally areas unexplored. Approximately at 3 o’clock in the afternoon (depending on the weather), you can appreciate “the flight of the condors”. Choquequirao is considered as “The Last Refuge of the Inca Empire”. Lunch and dinner in Rayacpata (2910masl). (B-L-D)

Day 03:

After an early breakfast, pack and start walking back to Chiquisca. On the way, you can observe again Apurimac canyon. Here you will be able to appreciate the flight of the condors, the exuberant vegetation and its variety of flowers and orchids. The time of the hike is about 8 hrs. Altitude: 3033- 1950 masl. passing the same small settlements as on the way up. You will stop in Playa Rosalina, where you will have lunch and after that you will continue to Chiquisqa. Overnight on campsite. (B-L-D)

Day 04: Chiquisqa – Cachora – Cusco

Early morning after breakfast (5:00am), departure towards Cachora town. On the hike, you can appreciate again the majestic Padrayoc snow-covered peak that decorates Apurimac canyon. Arrival to Cachora 6 hours after. On the way back to Cusco, you will make a stop in Cconoc and enjoy the hot natural springs. Arrival to Cusco approximately at 08 pm. (B-L)

What you need to bring/carry:

  • Backpack, with a change of clothes for the whole period of the trek. T shirts, shorts and some warm clothes. Recommended max 6 kilos for your personal belongings
  • Strong, comfortable footwear
  • Sweater and jacket (something warm)
  • Water bottle and purification tablets (Micropur are recommended and can be bought in local pharmacies in Cusco)
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
  • Sun block (sun protection cream), insect repellent
  • Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
  • Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries
  • One complete change of clothing (you can afford to carry more changes of clothing if you hire a personal porter)
  • For cash, pls note that there are ATM machines in Aguas Calientes
  • Optional: walking sticks or poles (rubber covers required)
