Salkantay Trek 5D / 4N

Day 01: Cusco – Challacancha – Sorayapampa

Departure from hotel at approx. 05:45 and transfer to Mollepata a small town 2½ hours from Cusco, which is the start of your 5-day trek. Light snack whilst luggage is loaded onto mules. Finally, you will begin your trek, making your way to Challacancha where you will rest and have lunch, afterwards you will continue walking as far as Sorayapampa, your first camp (Altitude 3 900 meters above sea level). Dinner and overnight. (L-D)

Day 02: Sorayapampa – Salkantay – Qolcapampa

Breakfast and an early morning start in which you will make your way towards the high snowcapped mountain Salkantay (4 600 meters above sea level). You will have the opportunity to see great views of this mountain. Lunch. After, you will begin to descend towards the cloud forest as you begin to enter this area the vegetation and wildlife will become abundant with lots of butterflies and birds until you reach Qolcapampa where you will make your second camp (3 300 meters above sea level). (B-L-D)

Day 03: Qolcapampa – Lucmabamba

After breakfast, you can take a bath in the local hot springs and then we continue to La Playa, where you can fish for lunch and afterwards you will continue walking until the camp in Lucmabamba. (B-L-D)

Day 04: Lucmabamba – Aguas Calientes

Breakfast. After, you will trek to an area well known for its special ecosystem. Lunch. Then, you will continue trekking to arrive close to the back of Machu Picchu and finally make your way to the Village of Aguas Calientes and spend the night there in a comfortable hostel or camp. (B-L)

Day 05: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Early breakfast and after that we will trek up the hill to the Machu Picchu Sanctuary where you will have your guided morning visit and in the afternoon, journey down the hill from the Sanctuary by shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes, before returning by train (backpacker), departing approx. 4.30 pm, arrival to Ollantaytambo station and transfer to Cusco, arrival approx. 9 pm. (B)
